My Mundane Uses for AI
Sometimes it’s hard to escape the stories about AI and how amazing or crap it is.
This post isn’t about either of those, just the 2 ways I use it the most.
It’s nothing exciting or ground breaking at all, in fact some people might read this and go “that’s stupid”. The one thing I will say about AI over other new things we’ve had, especially on the internet is how it can be used in different ways, that is exciting.
All the slop it is spewing out, not so much, but I do think it will eventually mean real people liking real people doing things themselves.
The first way I like to use it is to help me find or remember something.
This could be finding a movie, or the other day I was trying to find the name of who made this coffee cup I have to a coworker.
With AI you just tell it what you are after, give it as many details as you can remember and after a few goes it usually comes back with the answers. This helps speed up the finding out process and closes that loop in my brain so I don’t have to worry about it.
The other way I use it quite a bit is to either narrow down a model of a product and or find out who is selling it.
You can’t believe everything it tells you of course, but it has helped me find products or brands I didn’t know about and shows places that sell certain things.
Case in point I was looking for a RoLife house kit that’s no longer sold locally for my partner, AI told me of a place that had it and now I’m waiting for a package from overseas to turn up.
So yeah nothing exciting, just a couple of ways it makes my life a bit easier.
