The Friction is Real

I feel like I blink and a whole chunk of time has happened. Blink it's not the weekend. Blink another month has gone by.

On the work front things are OK. Lots of people have been sick. Work carries on. My one good team member is really stuck on the needing more money mindset. Which is fair enough, I don't blame them.

Everyone agrees they should be paid more, but no one can do anything apparently. Yet other jobs get posted for other departments that looks like less work, but more money.

If we could increase their pay, that would introduce some friction to them leaving. Not sure if that's the right term to use, but it is how I see it.

Just the money is crap.

If that was better the friction would be there, just enough to make them think a bit more about leaving.

I myself have the friction.

I get paid OK for what I do. I do things others can't. The goal is to train up my team to spread out the work. But if they keep leaving, it's tough.

I see other jobs that are more interesting, more technical and need better qualifications to do, yet they are paid a lot less than what I get. The friction is real.

I'm the kind of person that is happy to stay at a job for a long time.

I've done it in the past. At times when I shouldn't have. 8 years at one place with a boss who wasn't the best. 10 year at another where I had all the free time in the world and didn't use it as well as I should have.

If you don't believe in yourself or your abilities it can be hard to move on. Mix that in with never really knowing what you want to be doing, well it makes you stay in places.

So... I don't know what my next move is to be honest.

The thing is I have so much stuff happening outside of work. It doesn't really matter too much. Maybe it does and I should pay attention more.

This blinking and jumping forward in time thing isn't fun. That's what I do know.
