Self Censoring
I was looking at my old Guestbook while writing the last post.
Back when I was writing the original blog the internet was so new to people there weren't any established rules. It was sort of the wild west.
Back then if you read my blog you would know:
- The Country and City I lived in
- My mobile number
- The names of everyone in my family
- The types of jobs I had and maybe even the names
- The name of everyone I worked with
- The names of pretty much anyone I interacted with online
- What I did and when for most days of the week
- My thoughts on everything and everyone
Overtime the way people used the internet and interacted with each other changed.
Social media made an appearance and has eroded a lot of things, and for me at least censoring oneself became the norm.
Every platform is different. Every platform has some crossover details while still having something unique to it.
One option is to go all out. Do it like how it was back in the day. Cover everything. It would be a nice change, maybe even for the reader. Getting this full blown well rounded picture of this person typing these words.
Or keep it as this partially censored curated collection of posts.
The unknown consequences of writing fully is the thing that keeps everything in check. From work, to relationships to other people, sometimes it's easier to pause and choose what should be written.
I wonder if most people sit on one side or the other.
I do know I am writing things here that I wouldn't write on other mediums. This is the most freeing platform of them all, even with my self imposed constraints.
