My Brain Broke a Little
I really need to stop focusing on the past. A while back I said that I was saving posts from someone's old diary from back in the day.
I figured out that yes in fact I can work out the dates they were posted from the URL, so I've been going through and adding the dates in. It helps with the timeline I am building. It's not on a board with red string, but it's not far off. It's all digital and it's helping me somehow.
Tonight I came across one of these old posts. The date for it is 2002-05-29 and after reading it and thinking about it, it broke my brain a little bit.
You see this post mentioned 2 streets, the shop located at that street corner and the color of said shop, it mentions what is in the shop on display as well. I've seen the post before but never really paid any attention to it.
Tonight I thought I would look it up on Google maps, to place it in the world. To place it in the other country I have never visited, to see where it was near landmarks or locations mentioned in other posts. Helping build the world out a bit more from all this old content I am archiving.
After I hit enter on Google maps the location appeared, the shop that was mentioned by name was still there, the color of the shop is the same as described and the items inside this shop were visible from the street view image. When I zoomed out, it wasn't in the other country. It wasn't near the places this person lived. It was about an hour away from where I am writing this currently.
It’s not in a tourist spot, it’s not near anything of note really. It’s in a random part of a city. It’s such a weird post to write.
Without context, and without the whole story you might be thinking so what. But just trust me, this is a big WTF moment for me.
It ends with this:
Of all the things I could have seen and remembered, this one stuck. Weird ay.
Yeah real weird. This doesn't fit the rest of the timeline, what was known, or anything to be honest. It's broken my brain and I need to get some sleep.
