More Meetings
I was at my last job for 10 years. It was for a really large organisation that everyone has heard of. It's an important one.
I had this weird job which made no sense when I thought about it, but they paid me and I could almost do anything I wanted once I'd done the 30 mins or so of actual work.
This post isn't about that. It's about meetings.
That job as weird as it was, didn't require a whole bunch of meetings. In all seriousness we probably had 1 or 2 a year, that's all that was needed. In fact most of the meetings were to meet our new boss. We had a lot over the 10 years, was the nature of the business.
Onto the current job which while not giving anything away is pretty much exactly what a random person would think, and it has a lot of meetings.
It's part of the job.
There hasn't been too many that I've thought should be an email, so I guess that's something.
From in person to teams there is a lot of meetings about all sorts of topics.
Going to and experiencing them helps me shape what I think a good meeting should be.
Today's one was average at best.
We covered the topics. We had some discussions, but some key people were missing. I believe the appointment they had was strategically happening at the same time just in case they were called out on the amount of work we all have to help them catch up on before the end of the financial year, maybe.
People never commit, or go deep into some things, always on the edge of being too scared or timid to say something. It's strange to experience.
These people are more experienced than me, yet seem inexperienced in meetings.
Today I asked why a lot, something my bosses face was also showing. It drilled down into this random explanation. When we ran out of time it was proclaimed we better have another meeting.
I think I have another 4 I know of later in the week.
